TIRUCHY: A high-level delegation of NITI Aayog visited BHEL Tiruchy on Friday as part of an in-depth review of BHEL’s operations and its strategic road map under ‘Way Forward for a Future-Ready BHEL’.

The visit was undertaken by the Expert Committee on BHEL Revitalisation, chaired by VK Saraswat, with BP Rao, Former CMD, BHEL, and Prashanth Guru Srinivas, Co-founder, Catalytic Think Tank Forum, as members. The visit focused on assessing the unit’s operational excellence, technological depth, and preparedness for emerging national and global requirements.

During the visit, the delegation toured key manufacturing facilities, including Boiler Production, Advanced Technology Products (ATP), and the Defence and Aerospace Business Group.

Comprehensive presentations were made on the evolution and expansion of the Tiruchy unit, its diversified product portfolio, progress in Coal Gasification and Advanced Ultra Supercritical (AUSC) technology, and the unit’s advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Detailed interactions were held with the unit leadership and senior executives on future growth pathways.

Marking a significant milestone, Saraswat inaugurated a state-of-the-art three-spindle deep hole drilling machine at the ATP machine shop. The newly commissioned machine is specifically designed to drill extremely deep holes with stringent tolerances, enabling the precision fabrication of tube sheets for Nuclear Steam Generators — an area where accuracy, reliability, and quality are critical.

The official sources said that the visit reaffirms BHEL Tiruchy’s strategic role in strengthening India’s industrial, energy, defence, and nuclear manufacturing capabilities, while aligning the organisation’s transformation agenda with the national vision of a technologically advanced and globally competitive public sector enterprise.

Earlier, the committee was accorded a warm reception by S Prabhakar, Executive Director, BHEL along with senior officials of the unit. K Sadashiv Murthy, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, serving as Member Secretary to the Committee, accompanied by S M Ramanathan, Director (Engineering, Research & Development), BHEL were present during the visit.
