Newlywed couple, relative drown in river near Bodinayakanur in Theni

The police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel retrieved their bodies. Based on a complaint by Muthumarai, Kurangani police have filed a case, sources said.

MADURAI: Three persons, including a newlywed couple, drowned in a river at Periyathu Kombai near Bodinayakanur in Theni district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as G Alaguraja (32) of Bommayagoundanpatti, his wife Kavya (22) and relative T Sanjay Kumar (24) of Subburaj Nagar, Bodi, sources said. Kurangani police after inquiring, said the ill-fated couple went for a feast at Sanjay’s place and with Sanjay and the other boy Pranav (12) of Bodi walked down to the river to take bath. Alaguraja slipped from a rocky surface into the river, which pulled him deep and his wife Kavya drowned while trying to pull him out. Screaming for help, Alaguraja all of a sudden caught hold of Sanjay to escape. However, the latter also drowned. Pranav, after having managed to escape, informed the police and relatives about the incident through cell phone. The police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel retrieved their bodies. Based on a complaint by Muthumarai, Kurangani police have filed a case, sources said.
