MTC earns Rs 3.46 crore on Kaanum Pongal day

The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) on Saturday said that it had earned a revenue of Rs 3.46 crore on Kaanum Pongal from its operation of buses, including special bus services to tourist spots.

For Kaanum Pongal, the MTC on Friday operated 500 special bus services in addition to its normal operation of about 1,000 buses to various tourist spots including Anna Square, Vandalur Zoo, VGP, Kovalam, Mahabalipuram, Besant Nagar, Queens Land and Muttukadu, an official release from the MTC said.


Moreover, this year, more tourists visited Mahabalipuram than expected, it said, adding that to facilitate tourist’s movement in the town where large buses cannot be operated, MTC operated 30 small buses from the bypass to various tourist attractions. “MTC has earned a total revenue of Rs 3.46 crore from its operation on Kaanum Pongal day,” it said.
