CHENNAI: SpiceJet is set to operate a flight service between Chennai and Thoothukudi every day from March 30 onwards, following the demand from travellers from the southern district.

Currently, Indigo Airlines operates eight services between Chennai and Thoothukudi every day but most of the time all flights are full. During the festival season, passengers are unable to book tickets due to huge demand.

SpiceJet will operate four services every day, which increases the overall number of flights to Thoothukudi to 12/day, which could increase further, depending on the demand, said airport sources.

The Air India Express is about to start its service to Tiruchy from March 22. Currently, Indigo operates 14 services between Chennai-Tiruchy each day. However, as the footfall is increasing, Air India Express decided to operate a flight every day to Tiruchy.

Flight to Tiruchy would depart at 6.45 pm and land at 7.45 pm. Then, at 8.15 pm, the same flight would depart from Trichy and arrive in Chennai at 9.15 pm. Airport sources said the flight services to Madurai, Kovai and Salem would also be increased in the upcoming days.
