RANIPET: According to sources, officials swung into action when they received information of three minor marriages being planned in the Byra colony at nearby Narasingapuram village. One girl aged 16 years and two others aged 17 years were to be given in marriage at a house in the colony itself to avoid the function garnering unwanted attention.

Officials, including the district officials, the police, the district social welfare officer, childline officials and district child security officials rushed to the house where the marriage was reportedly planned. They then engaged in interacting with the girls’ parents, during which they created awareness on child marriages.

Further, officials first made the girls and their parents appear before the district child welfare committee after which the three minors were admitted to the government rehabilitation home in Vellore. Further investigation is under way.
