“Since there is restriction in timings for bursting crackers during Deepavali, the state government will announce the timings for exploding crackers. The State will provide permission to burst only the type of crackers that were already permitted,” said Karuppannan, after participating in a seminar on air quality organised byAnna University.

He also said that the state government has already segregated crackers based on their chemical composition and the types of crackers to be exploded during Deepavali. The Environment Department along with several other agencies would monitor the time of bursting and the type of crackers that are burst during Deepavali, said the Minister.

The Supreme Court has allowed only two hours to burst the crackers and it is the discretion of the state government to fix the timings for bursting crackers. Last year, the state government permitted bursting of crackers for one hour in the morning and one hourin the evening.
