COIMBATORE: A three-and-a-half-year-old boy who was attacked by a stray dog died of suspected rabies at Hosur in Krishnagiri.

The deceased, Satya, son of Nandalal and Reka, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was playing in front of his house on the evening of August 31, when he came under attack.

Police said Nandalal was working as a daily wage labourer in a greenhouse farm owned by Ramamurthy at Masinaickenpalli village near Hosur, while staying with his family on the same premises.

On the fateful evening, the child was playing in front of his house when a street dog chased and pounced on him. The ferocious attack left the boy with deep bites on his face and hands. On hearing his screams, the parents and neighbours rushed to his rescue and chased away the dog.

The boy was then admitted to Hosur Government Hospital. After treatment, the boy was discharged from the hospital a few days ago. On Sunday evening, the boy suddenly swooned, and he was taken to the hospital by his parents. However, the boy died on the way. The boy is believed to have died of rabies. The Kelamangalam police have registered a case, and further inquiries are on.

The incident comes after a 50-year-old daily wager who was bitten by a stray dog died after exhibiting symptoms of rabies in Krishnagiri on September 17.
