The registration process for the first round of counselling for undergraduate medical courses closed on Monday and the seat allotment would begin on Tuesday. But medical aspirants from Tamil Nadu are worried that they might not get admission to the college of their choice in the first round. The second round of All India NEET counselling will be held from November 18. Several students from the State, including many who scored well in NEET, did not opt for the first round of the All India counselling, hoping to get the college of their choice in the first round of State counselling.

With the officials here waiting for NTA data before releasing the rank list, the students had to do a lot of guesswork on their position in the State rank list. So some of them have opted out of the national counselling and instead wait for a better college in the State, while others have gone ahead with their national rank. Now that the Governor has finally given the nod for the bill on 7.5 per cent quota for government school students, the notification on the rank list is expected this week, said senior officials from the selection committee.
