CHENNAI: A spray paint factory caught fire in Somangalam in Kancheepuram district on Friday.

A spray paint factory is situated in Arampedu village near Somangalam. On Friday evening the workers were in the process of recycling the old spray paint cans and more than 30 workers were in the unit. When they were crushing the cans using the hydraulic press, it blasted and the entire unit caught fire.

Soon on information the fire and rescue team from Irunkatukottai, Sriperumbudur and another private firm rushed to the spot and started to douse the fire. Since there were many chemicals and paints in the factory all of them were bursting and it took more time for the firefighters to bring the situation under control.

However, the workers escaped without injuries during the incident and at midnight the fire was put off. The Somangalam police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
