Marathon marks commencement of Riviera 2020

A total of 4,958 runners participated in the long distance run organised by VIT University as part of its inaugural of the cultural and sports festival ‘Riviera 2020’ on Wednesday.

Vice president Sankar Viswanathan flagged off the run while the chief guest was 1995 Kabaddi Arjuna awardee P Ganesan and the guest of honour was rowing champion Rohit Maradappa.


In the men’s category, the first prize was bagged by A Santhosh Kumar while the second spot was secured by Benjamin of Kenya. S Sivanesh received the third prize in the long run. Both Santhosh and Sivanesh were from an Islamiah college based in Vaniyambadi.


In the women’s category, the first prize was won by Kalaiselvi of Namakkal while R Tamilarasi of Katpadi and V Pavithra of Gudiyattam received the second and third prize respectively.


Assistant vice president S Kadambari Viswanthan, Pro VC S Narayanan, Riviera convenor R Subhashini and Dean Students Welfare Amit Mahindrakar were present at the event.
