Man, his two daughters, and mother-in-law killed in Tirunelveli accident

The fatal mishap happened around 11 am when the four were travelling on a two-wheeler which collided with a truck.

MADURAI: Four persons including two children of a family were killed in an accident which occurred near Manimoortheeswaram on Tirunelveli-Madurai road in Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

The deceased victims have been identified as Kannan (40) of Rajapathi, his daughters – Mareeswari (14) and Sameera (7) and his mother-in-law Andal (60), sources said.

The fatal mishap happened around 11 am when the four were travelling on a two-wheeler which collided with a truck.

The victims succumbed to injuries on the spot. The bodies were taken to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Rupesh Kumar Meena inspected the accident site and held inquiries. Vehicular traffic was disrupted for some time until the accident site was cleared.

Sources said Kannan rode the bike in the right direction, but, unfortunately, the truck proceeding from the opposite direction was said to have hit the bike while overtaking a vehicle.

Moreover, road widening and strengthening works are underway with barricades put up in parts of the stretch.

Kannan, who was employed in a private knitwear firm in Tirupur had come to Tirunelveli on leave for personal reasons. Based on a complaint, Palayamkottai Taluk police registered a case.
