Bull tamer gored to death during Manjuvirattu near Karaikudi

He was identified as Karthik, a cowherd hailing from Varagampadi near Salem.

CHENNAI:MADURAI: A twenty-four-year-old tamer was gored to death by a bull during Manjuvirattu, a bull-taming sport, held at V Soorakudi village near Karaikudi in Sivaganga district on Sunday. The deceased victim has been identified as D Karthi, a resident of Udayapatti, a village in Salem district, sources said. Manjuvirattu was conducted at the village without obtaining prior permission from the District Administration. Several bulls from Sivaganga and its neighbouring districts and around two hundred tamers participated in the sport. The incident occurred during the fourth round when a raging bull ran amock and caused grievous injury around on victim’s chest. The tamer succumbed on the spot. However, the event was suspended after the incident. Based on a complaint, Kundrakudi police have filed a case, sources said.
