After taking part in protest demonstration organised by Aikiya Jamaath at Obula Padithurai in Madurai on Wednesday in support of farmers agitating in Delhi against the Farm Bills 2020, Venkatesan said if the required lands were not handed over for the construction of AIIMS Hospital soon, protest would be held.

Further, the Madurai MP said over the last two years, a series of protests were organised urging the need to take up the project soon, but the state government was seldom bothered and lethargic in handing over the required lands. The issue concerning the delay in taking up this development project was raised several times in Parliament. While the Centre gave its nod for constructing AIIMS Hospital facility in Madurai, Jammu and Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh, progress commenced in two other states except Tamil Nadu. Even the admission process has been started, but nothing is taking shape in Madurai, he said. Since, a special officer has not been appointed for this project, it causes inordinate delay. Hence, he demanded the state to immediately appoint a special officer and hand over lands for the construction.
