TIRUCHY: An unidentified gang attempted to murder a criminal from Madurai while the police who took him to Puzhal prison stopped for breakfast in Perambalur, and the police are searching for the accused with the support of the CCTV footage.
It is said that Kali, alias Maha Kali from Madurai, was being taken to Puzhal prison. On Saturday morning, the police stopped the van at Eraiyur for breakfast.
While they were having food, a gang of around 10 people arrived by two cars and started hurling country bombs, in which three police personnel sustained minor burn injuries, but Kali escaped unhurt.
On information, the Mangalamedu police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured police, rushed them to Perambalur GH and took care of Kali. After first aid, the injured were discharged, and the police continued their journey.
The Mangalamedu police registered a case and are investigating after retrieving the CCTV footage.
