CHENNAI: BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday mounted a sharp attack on the ruling DMK government, hailing the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court for permitting the lighting of the deepam at the Deepathoon in Tirupparankundram hill and accusing the State of repeatedly acting against Hindu religious practices.

In a statement, Nainar Nagenthran said the High Court, by dismissing the DMK government’s appeal seeking to block lighting of lamp, had once again stood firmly on the side of justice and constitutional values. He said the verdict had brought immense relief to devotees and reaffirmed that the deepathoon rightfully belongs to the Tirupparankundram Subramania Swamy Temple.

“The court has delivered a clear rebuke to the State government for misusing the bogey of law and order to suit its political convenience,” he said, adding that projecting routine religious practices as potential flashpoints was both misleading and unacceptable. The BJP leader said the ruling had categorically rejected the DMK’s claims and exposed what he termed its manufactured narrative around public order.

Nagenthran alleged that despite facing repeated judicial setbacks, the DMK government continued to pursue what he described as a persistent anti-Hindu agenda, ignoring court directions and reviving the same arguments through appeals. “Even after being pulled up multiple times by the judiciary, the government shows no inclination to correct itself,” he said.

Striking a strong political note, the BJP state president asserted that the DMK’s arrogance of power and continued hostility towards Hindu beliefs would ultimately lead to its political downfall. “A government that repeatedly disrespects faith and constitutional propriety will be decisively shown the door by the people,” he said.

The verdict, he added, was not merely a legal win but a reaffirmation of religious rights and judicial balance in the State.
