Madras HC puts mandatory e-filing notification on hold

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has kept in abeyance the notification that made e-filing mandatory in subordinate courts until further orders.


Lawyers across Tamil Nadu have been protesting against the e-filing system. In this situation, the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) and the Federation of Bar Associations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry filed a case challenging the move to make e-filing mandatory.


They further stated that along with e-filing, there should also be an option to file cases physically.

When the case came up for hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and G Arul Murugan said that an appropriate decision on this issue would be taken after Pongal, and the hearing of the case was adjourned.


Later on Tuesday evening, Registrar General of the Madras High Court S Alli announced that the order making e-filing mandatory in subordinate courts has been kept in abeyance until further orders.
