CHENNAI: The TVK has grown into a big party as it is backed by the people, actor politician Vijay said on Monday and claimed that his party alone could defeat the DMK at the hustings.
Though the upcoming Assembly election in Tamil Nadu is being projected as a triangular contest, the electoral battle will only be between the TVK and the DMK, concluding in the latter's defeat at the hustings, he said.
"People talk about triangular or four-corner contests. One is represented by the TVK backed by the people, the second is DMK, and the third is BJP and its many allies. Only the TVK, which is a people's force alone can defeat the DMK," Vijay said as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam stepped into third year today.
Addressing the TVK members during the anniversary celebration here, the party founder said, "Today we have grown into a big party because of you and the people. You are my strength. I and our party depend on you."
He said only his TVK had the courage to oppose the DMK, which he labeled as a "platinum jubilee baby", as the people overwhelmingly support him.
The DMK is celebrating its 75 years of formation.
Vijay claimed he would script the success story of iconic AIADMK leader M G Ramachandran, in storming to power this year.
He claimed that the TVK was the only option for the people in the upcoming Assembly election, and there was no other alternative.
Recalling Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin's earlier remark that he couldn't sleep thinking about what his ministers would utter in public and bring trouble to him, Vijay said, "Wake up Stalin and ask whom he would vote. Then, he would say whistle (TVK election symbol). Truth always comes out when you wake up someone during sleep and ask."
On the actor being targeted for not meeting the public or the media and whenever he was challenged, Vijay said, "To those who say 'hey Vijay, come out of the house', I would say wait boss, there's a Vijay and Viji in every house. They will all come out on the day of voting with their voter ID and stand in front of the polling booth to vote. Then you will feel it."
He urged his party workers to work more sharply and ensure the party's victory at the hustings.
On the party symbol, Vijay said, "We are the whistle blowers in Tamil Nadu. The evil force and the corrupt force should scatter when we blow loudly. Then the TVK will emerge as the ruling party. I am with you and people are with us. Be confident, victory is ours," the actor said.
Earlier, he remarked that had the Tamil savant Thiruvalluvar been alive today, he would have written "injustice, anarchy and mischief are all the world of the DMK."
