CHENNAI: Cadres of the Left parties, VCK, MDMK, Congress and other organisations formed the social harmony human chain in the city and various parts of the state on Tuesday evening. The rally emphasised on communal harmony and not allowing separatists forces who wanted to create enmity on the basis of religion and try to disrupt peace in the state.

In Chennai, the human chain was formed on Anna Salai from Periyar Statue to Thousand Lights with leaders of various political parties and organisations, including Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan and VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan taking part.

They raised slogans against Sangh Parivar and Sanatana forces for trying to create division among the people on the basis of religion and caste.

VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said that there would be no space for fascists, Sanatana and Sangh Parivar forces, which are trying to create division on the basis of caste and religion in Tamil Nadu. “These are slogans reverberating across the state in the social harmony human chain,” he tweeted.

He said that the human chain was held in over 500 places across the state with the participation of political parties and organisations.

CPM, CPI and VCK had announced that they would conduct a human chain on October 2 to counter the RSS route marches.
