CHENNAI: The daughter of an AIADMK functionary was found hanging in her apartment in Kelambakkam on Sunday.

The deceased, Anusha (25), was a law student at a private college in the same locality and a native of Kallakurichi district. Her father, Rajasekar, is the AIADMK North Union Secretary of Kallakurichi district. Anusha was also reportedly looking for employment.

According to police, Anusha had befriended Nithyanandam, who runs an export business in Tiruvanmiyur. The two met at a private gym in Adyar, where they were frequent visitors.

On Sunday, Anusha made a video call to Nithyanandam and informed him that she intended to end her life before disconnecting the call. He immediately alerted the security guard of the apartment. When the guard reached her flat, Anusha was found hanging from the ceiling.

The Kelambakkam police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Anusha had a verbal altercation with her boyfriend shortly before taking the extreme step.

Her mobile phone has been seized and sent to the cyber forensic laboratory for analysis. Further investigation is under way to know the exact reasons behind the suicide.
