Last-minute move an election ploy, says TN BJP chief Nainar

TIRUCHY: BJP state president Nainar Nagendran criticised the State government’s announcement of a remodelled pension scheme, terming its release at the fag end of the DMK regime's tenure as nothing but an election gimmick aimed at misleading the public.

Speaking to reporters, Nainar said the DMK had promised to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in its election manifesto but had failed to implement it for nearly 5 years. “Now, as if waking up from deep slumber, the government has announced it at the edge of its term. What prompted this sudden move, and will it ever be realised?” he asked.

He claimed the announcement was intended to deceive government employees’ associations, including JACTO-GEO, and the general public, while pointing out that protests by nurses, sanitation workers and secondary grade teachers had yielded no results so far.

Nainar also recalled what he described as the DMK government's unfulfilled promises, including the scrapping of NEET and a Rs 100 reduction in LPG cylinder prices.

Referring to the political situation ahead of the Assembly polls, Nainar said the impact of the Union Home Minister’s visit to Tamil Nadu would be evident. He further alleged that the DMK practised “fake secularism,” asserting that the NDA would form the government in Tamil Nadu after the elections.
