According to sources, in a footage that went viral, a girl student of Class 6 of the government school alleged that the teacher, identified as Beatrice Thangam, insisted students to read the Bible and discouraged them from reading the Bhagavad Gita terming it as a satanic practice and used to teach parables of spiritual concepts. Following this authorities conducted an inquiry.

Chief Educational Officer M Perumal, when contacted, said the issue has been going on for the last two days and after conducting enquiry, the teacher has been suspended.

Further responding to a staff member, who questioned the student about the issue, the girl said even the teacher often taught how to sew The Holy Cross symbol. When asked whether the teacher provided the Bible to all students in the class, the student denied it. But, the teacher advised students to join hands together and kneel down to offer prayers during class hours, sources said.

Beatrice Thangam was appointed as tailoring teacher in 2019. The issue has drawn strong condemnations from parents, public and activists of Hindu outfits.
