A 28-year-old youth, with COVID-19 symptoms, died in Coimbatore on Sunday night. However, he died on the way to hospital. Doctors said that the patient had visited a few private hospitals before coming to the CMCH thus delaying the treatment process.

Though he did not have any co-morbid conditions, he developed breathlessness even while undergoing treatment at the special ward in CMCH. He was immediately shifted to ESI Hospital for a re-test, but died on the way. Doctors said that it is not possible to collect swabs from a deceased person for a re-test.

Following the death of the youth en route to hospital, the health department has begun works to trace his travel history and to screen his contacts though the first round of test are inconclusive for COVID-19 infection. His body has been cremated in a Corporation crematorium as per WHO norms with a limited number of people in attendance on Monday.

This is the second death from the district as a 44-year-old man with blood cancer from Kavundampalayam had died in the first week of May while undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.
