King’s Institute to get lab for screening Corona virus

After the first case of Coronavirus was reported in Kerala on Thursday, an additional laboratory has started to function from Friday at King’s Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy based on the Union Health Ministry instructions.

The healthcare authorities aim at augmentationof laboratories to ensure that the samples of suspected cases can be testedextensively.


The Institute has received the testing kits and other laboratory equipment from National Institute of Virology. The officials from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine say that adequate number of laboratory testing reagents are available at the Institute. “We have all the testing facilities available at the King’s Institute, but because Coronavirus is a new kind of a virus, we are getting the testing reagents from the National Institute of Virology,” said Public Health Director Dr KKolandaisamy.
