TIRUCHY: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday questioned police personnel involved in security at the Karur stampede that killed 41 people and left 110 injured during actor-politician Vijay’s campaign on September 27.

Ten police personnel, including four sub-inspectors, appeared before the CBI for questioning regarding the security arrangements during the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign. The inquiry was held at the Government Tourist Bungalow in Thanthonimalai, Karur, following a summons issued to them.

The police officers reportedly provided their explanations during the questioning, and their statements were recorded by CBI officials.

Meanwhile, a private ambulance owner who had earlier appeared before the CBI was again questioned on Tuesday. His statements were also recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Officials remained tight-lipped as the investigation is still underway, and the central agency has also been grilling TVK's top leaders, including Vijay.

The stampede occurred on September 27 at Velusamypuram, where TVK president and actor Vijay was campaigning.

Following the incident, a case was registered and later transferred to the CBI. The agency has since been examining police personnel, ambulance staff, eyewitnesses, injured persons, relatives of the deceased and officials from various departments as part of the probe.
