COIMBATORE: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan on Friday said Rahul Gandhi has invited him to campaign for Karnataka elections.

“A decision on campaigning in Karnataka will be taken soon. Rahul Gandhi spoke to me over phone this morning and as well as Karnataka state Congress president TK Sivakumar had sent a letter inviting me to campaign for Congress in the upcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka,” Kamal told reporters, after chairing a meeting with party functionaries in Coimbatore and Salem region to discuss on the Lok Sabha polls.

The actor-turned-politician has already campaigned for the Congress-DMK alliance candidate EVKS Elangovan during the recent Erode bypoll. Responding to a query if the MNM will contest alone or in alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, Kamal said a decision on alliance is yet to be taken and it will be announced soon.

Earlier, the MNM leader said that he will never do politics on religion and community, but will only raise issues of people. “Democracy should be safeguarded like a baby as many say it is under threat,” he said.
