MADURAI: The construction of Kalaignar memorial library building underway in Madurai will be completed by the end of next January. After taking stock of the construction works, PWD Minister EV Velu on Wednesday said civil works, which include laying of tiles pending on 9,000 square feet area and granite on 1,500 sq ft area are expected to be completed by October 10.
Once the civil engineering works are over, front elevation glass works and interior decoration would be taken up. Further talking to reporters, Velu said Chief Minister MK Stalin had already held talks with three specialised architects and sought their expertise to establish the much awaited memorial library named after former chief minister M Karunanidhi in a grand manner. The Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer have been insisting on the project contractor to complete the works on time. Once the entire works are completed by January 30, the Chief Minister would finalise a date for the inauguration of the memorial library.
On the stadium announced by the state government for spectators to watch jallikattu at Alanganallur in Madurai district, the Minister said two sites have been identified and the Chief Minister would take a final call on it.
On Chennai-Salem eight lane expressway project, Velu said the state government was not against the project and it’s a policy decision of the government. As time progresses, widening of roads becomes essential since the number of vehicles is also increasing. Therefore, land acquisition is inevitable, he said.
Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P Moorthy and officials accompanied the PWD Minister during the inspection, sources said.
