CHENNAI: The report of the Justice Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry might have opened a Pandora’s box vis-a-vis the death of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The commission has held that the former chief minister had died at 3.50 pm on December 4, contrary to Apollo Hospital’s declaration that it was at 11.30 pm on December 5.
“Jayalalithaa passed away at 3.50pm on December 4, 2016 itself. The CPR and stenography exercises were futile and they have been used as a ploy to explain away the delay in the official declaration of death,” said the Commission which has drawn its conclusion based on the submissions made by a host of witnesses/evidences ranging from the vice chancellor of TN Dr MGR Medical University Dr Sudha Seshayyan to the nephew of late Jayalalithaa.
Sudha Seshayyan clearly stated that at 11.30 pm, when embalming commenced, she found that the late chief minister would have passed away 10 to 15 hours prior to the time. Citing the evidence of Dr v Deva Gourou of AIIMS that even after 45 minutes of doing CPR, if the heart is not revived, then they would declare dead. Knowing well that her heart would not revive, they prolonged the time, with some motive. The unequivocal and unambiguous version of the nurses, technicians and duty doctors, who were monitoring the health status of the late chief minister, is that she suffered a cardiac failure before 3.50 pm on December 4, 2016 and there was no blood circulation. The commission has taken cognizance of the late CM’s nephew Deepak’s version that he performed the first anniversary of her death considering the time of death as between 3 pm and 3.30 pm on December 4.
