It’s not ‘biriyani bribe,’ clarifies Dindigul Collector

As the pace for the rural local body polls picked up, allegations of several voters of Chettinayakanpatti village in Dindigul being bribed by a contestant with biriyani and money surfaced on Wednesday. However, the District Election Officer based on the flying squad team dismissed it as private function feast.

It was alleged that Valarmathi, wife of Sundaravadivel, who is about to contest for the post of Chettinayaknapatti village panchayat president, offered biriyani and money clandestinely at a godwon near Sivan temple in the village. It was alleged to be an act of poll violation made with an intent to garner votes in her favour, sources said.

However, Dindigul Collector and District Election Officer M Vijayalakshmi denied any such violation. Further, the Collector said based on such information, the flying squad team personnel inspected the spot. The team probed the alleged allegation and submitted a report.

According to the findings of the report, a private textile mill proprietor offered ‘annadhanam’ to people in his godown on the occasion of his child’s birthday. He was not affiliated to any political party, the Collector said. Moreover, the Collector said all flying squad teams were on alert to check any violation. If anybody was found guilty, necessary action would be taken, she added.
