Isolated rain likely in south Tamil Nadu on Jan 27; squally winds along coast

CHENNAI: Light to moderate rain is likely at one or two places in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu today (January 27), the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, said.

According to a release issued by the RMC and quoted by Daily Thanthi, rainfall activity is expected in parts of South Tamil Nadu and districts along the Western Ghats today, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining parts of the State.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a north-south feeble trough over the southeast Arabian Sea, off the Kerala coast, has become less marked, influencing the prevailing weather conditions in the region.

From January 28 to 30, dry conditions are expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

However, light to moderate rain may occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on January 31 and February 1.

Meanwhile, squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is likely over the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, and along and off the south Tamil Nadu coast.

Similar wind speeds are likely over Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area from January 28-30. In view of the rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in the affected areas on the specified days, the weather department added.
