CHENNAI: The Puducherry Health Department has recommended closure of schools for Classes 1 to Class 8 on Friday following rapid increase in fever among children.

The infection has seen a sudden spike, especially among school-going children.

Following this, the health department has advised that the viral fever spreads during rainy season and that people need not panic.

To prevent the spread among children, the Health Department has sent a recommendation letter to the Education Department to close the schools for Class 1 to Class 8 and a letter has been sent to the Director of Education.

The letter read, "For the last 10 days, children suffering from fever are receiving treatment in large numbers. Most of them are suffering from high fever, cold, and cough."

“Most of them are treated as outpatients and many have also been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Children's Hospital. This viral fever is widely spreading among children,” he wrote.
