In freak mishap farm worker ran over by harvester, dies

TIRUVALLUR: A 57-year-old farm worker died in a freak accident when a vehicle used to harvest crops backed into the tractor he was sitting on, in Tiruvallur on Thursday.

The victim Rajagopal, a resident of Kanjipadi near Tirutani was working at a farm in Kaivandoor village on Thursday. He was sitting atop a tractor and overseeing the crops being harvested when a vehicle used for crop harvesting hit the tractor from behind.

“Rajagopal instantly lost balance and fell to the ground when the harvesting vehicle ran over him,” police said.

Other workers quickly rescued the victim and rushed him to the Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital.

Despite treatment, the victim breathed his last following which the Mappedu police has registered a case and are investigating.
