Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced that the hospital has been given special status for genetic testing and research as the Centre of Excellence for Rare Disease.

CHENNAI: The Institute of Child Health and Egmore Children's Hospital has been given special status for medical research by the Union Government.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced that the hospital has been given special status for genetic testing and research as the Centre of Excellence for Rare Disease. He presented the certificates to ICH Director S Ezhilarasi on Saturday.

Through this, various activities like detection of genetic diseases, providing special treatments, special counselling, prevention of genetic diseases at birth, special training and conducting research will be conducted at the hospital. Additionally, it has been announced that Rs 5 crore will be provided by the Union Government.
