Huge quantity of gutkha, crackers seized in Karur

The sleuths from Organised Crime Investigation Unit (OCIU) from Tiruchy seized 40 bags of gutkha and 10 bags of fire crackers together worth Rs 11 lakh from a grocery shop in Karur on Monday.

Based on a tip off that a huge quantity of gutka and explosives have been hoarded in a grocery shop, the OCIU police rushed to the shop owned by Subramani, located at Mariamman Koil street in Tharagampatti and conducted a search operation and later, the team also went to the farm house of Subramani at Servaikaran Puthur where they seized 40 bags of gutka and 10 bags of fire crackers used for temple festivals. The reason for hoarding the fire crackers was yet to be known. Subsequently, the police arrested Subramani and the seized goods were taken to the Police Station at Chinthamanipatti.
