Arjun Sampath's son held for threat to 'cut tongue' of Nakkheeran's editor

Police booked cases against him acting on a complaint following which he moved the High Court with an anticipatory bail plea and sought interim relief from being arrested.

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Police arrested Indu Makkal Katchi (IMK) youth wing president Omkar Balaji for his remarks on the editor of a Tamil magazine.

The Race Course police booked Balaji, son of IMK founder Arjun Sampath for his controversial statement that he would chop off the tongue of Gopal, editor of Tamil magazine ‘Nakkheeran’. He said this during a protest on October 27 to condemn an article published by the magazine on Isha Yoga Centre.

After a medical examination at CMCH, he was produced in court on Thursday to be remanded in judicial custody till November 28.

IMK founder Arjun Sampath said that Chennai police arrested him on court premises and handed him over to Coimbatore police. “We will face the case legally,” he said.
