Stating it at a meeting on Monday organised by Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram to explain the restrictions in place for the festival, Hindu Munani local president Mahesh said that idols would be displayed with devotees following social distancing. Permission would be sought for installation and immersion and if officials refused this, then they would be forced to break rules and celebrate the festival. Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Chakranpani seconded Mahesh’s view.

Making a note of it, the Collector said he will take it to the notice of the Chief Minister and a decision will be made later.
