Heavy rain in Theni, Vaigai Dam water level increases incessantly

Due to Heavy rain in Theni, the Vaigai Dam's water level touches 46 feet.

The Southwest Monsoon turned severe in Kerala and Theni in Western Ghats. This led to increase in water level in  Mullai Periyar dam and the water was stored in Vaigai dam. On 18th August, Theni and the water holding areas in Vaigai dam received heavy rain increasing the water level.

The water level of Mullai Periyar dam is 130.70 feet. It receives 1150 cubic feet water and the water balance is 4861 million feet. 1700 cubic feet water is released from the dam.

The 71 feet high Vaigai dam has 45.96 feet water level. It receives 1592 cubic feet Water. The dam's water balance is 1507 million cubic feet. Madurai receives 60 cubic feet as drinking water from this dam.

Manjalaru dam's water level is 35 feet, Sothuparai dam's water level is 81.18 feet. Moreover, light showers were experienced in the morning which made the farmers and the people happy.

Periyar , Thekkadi, Koodalur, Shanmuganadhi, Uthamapalayam, Veerapandi, Vaigai dam, Manjalaru, and Kodaikanal received 6.2, 5.2, 8, 4, 5.4, 6, 66, 12 and 8.6 millimeters rain respectively.
