The Health Minister also emphasized on the need to create awareness on the availability of treatment for leprosy and removing stigma against leprosy in the State.
“The number of cases of leprosy in women and children is comparatively higher and constitute more than 50 percent of the leprosy cases in the State. The State Health Department under its Leprosy Eradication Programme is working towards preventing and control of cases of leprosy,” said a senior official from the Tamil Nadu Leprosy EradicationProgramme.
The State is also collaborating Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (SILF), an organisation which works for the social and economic empowerment of persons affected by leprosy and their families to create awareness against the stigma associated with leprosy.
