CHENNAI: Madras High Court cleared the decks for a Kallakurichi-based private school to resume physical classes from Class V to VIII. The school that was functioning in Kaniyamoor village in the district was closed on July 14, 2022, after violence broke out on the school campus.

Justice CV Karthikeyan passed the direction on hearing the petition filed by the Latha Educational Trust which is running the private school.

The school management filed the petition for a direction to resume physical classes from LKG to XII.

The school management filed an affidavit before the Madras HC saying that it has appointed permanent counselors to give counseling to the students.

It was also submitted that a team of police headed by the Sub-Inspector has been providing round-the-clock protection to the school where a Class XII student died mysteriously and the same was the reason for the turmoil.

Recording the submissions, the judge observed that the physical classes shall be resumed from Class V to VIII. "The policemen who are on duty in the school premises shall wear usual clothes instead of their uniform, " the judge added.

It could be recalled that the court already granted permission to conduct physical classes from Class IX to Class XII.

Earlier, the HC ordered the school to file an affidavit to appraise the court that how the school management will protect its students and avoid the untoward incidents which happened in the past.

The matter has been adjourned for six weeks.
