Govt teachers visit students’ homes to ensure they have TV

Teachers in government and aided schools are now being deployed to distribute timetable and programme schedule of Kalvi Tholaikatchi, the State-run exclusive educational channel, to students at their homes. They would also ensure that the children had television sets at their homes to watch the programmes.

With admissions to government and aided schools moving at a good pace, the authorities have decided to distribute the programme schedule of the channel through teaching staff to create awareness about the channel among students and parents.

To compensate the loss of academic days due to COVID-19 lockdown, Tamil Nadu government had recently launched several classroom session programmes based on the syllabus for the students from Class one to Class 12. A senior School Education Department official said the distribution of programme schedule have already started in many districts, especially in the southern region. “The teachers were also instructed to meet students and advise them about the benefits of the programmes, as it would be useful once the schools reopen,” he added. Teachers’ visit to their homes would also ensure that the students had access to television sets, the official said. Also, he added, parents were being advised to ensure that the children followed the programmes on the channel regularly.

The official said that the teachers were also asked to seek the feedback about the programmes that were aired on Kalvi Tholaikatchi channel. “It would be useful for improving the quality of the programme in the future,” he added.

“Arrangements were also made to send programme schedule to the parents through SMS,” he said.
