S Subramanian, the Siddha practitioner, had moved the court seeking a direction to government to recognise the herbal medicine called ‘IMPRO’ which he made with 66 herbs to cure those with COVID -19.

Assistant Solicitor General V Kathirvelu said the Ministry of Ayush has already presented a detailed report on Indian medicine and homeopathy treatment for COVID. The Ministry has so far received more than 35,000 petitions for testing and prescribing medicines. The petitioner did not attach the State government’s recommendation for testing the medicine, he added.

Additional Advocate General Chellapandian said as per central guidelines, ‘Kabasura Kudineer’ and ‘Nilavembu Kashayam’ were being given to people as a precautionary measure. A new research centre to study effects of medicine would come up at Arumbakkam in Chennai, he added.

A Division Bench of Justices PN Prakash and B Pugalendhi directed the State government to form an expert committee to test the medicine the petitioner discovered, and submit a report before the court on June 30.
