In keeping with the current COVID-19 related control measures, the Vellore district administration has issued tough directives for both participants and spectators of bull races planned in the district, officials said.

Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram after discussions with police, revenue and local administration officials stated that those seeking official sanction to conduct bull runs should apply online. While the last date for online applications was 5 pm on January 4, the events would be permitted between January 16 and February 28, he added.

A village would be allowed to conduct only one bull run, while the district administration would use its discretionary powers to decide if there was more than one application from the same village.

While only 50 per cent of spectators would be allowed into the venue and that too only after all underwent thermal scanning, participants were asked to get no covid virus certificates from the PHC nearest their villages two days before the event started.

Similarly, bull owners would be allowed to come to the venue with only four attendants all of whom should also compulsorily get the no-COVID virus certificates from the relevant medical authority, Shanmuga Sundaram said.

Ordering that all participants wear masks and follow social distancing, the Collector said those found violating would be removed from the premises forthwith.
