“Teachers will be involved in counting of votes, which may prolong till night. But, it has already been announced that schools will reopen on January 3. So, the schools should be declared a local holiday and reopen only on January 6,” urged association’s Tirupur district president R Raj Kumar in a statement issued on Monday.

The association lamented that even basic amenities were not provided for teachers who took part in the three-phase training section for conducting elections. “For those who underwent training, even basic necessities like drinking water and tea were not provided,” he lamented. For third phase training, the teachers were asked to come at 9 am on the day before elections.
