According to police, Chitra took the extreme step on Saturday night as she was depressed seeing her parents quarrelling frequently over family issues.

Her father Muthusamy from Pollachi was working in a farm at Madukarai by staying there with his family.

He often quarrelled with his wife Velumani under the influence of alcohol. On Saturday night, Muthusamy assaulted his wife following a quarrel. Depressed on seeing her parents fighting over petty issues, Chitra walked out of the house in anger and jumped into a well located in the farm.

Following this, her brother Arun Kumar (25) jumped into the well to save her. However, he too didn’t know swimming and they both drowned in the well.

On receiving information, the Madukarai police and Fire Service personnel retrieved the bodies of the siblings and sent them for post-mortem at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

A case has been registered and further investigations are on by the police.
