Gang of 10 involved in murder of coolie detained under Goondas Act

The group, in a drunken brawl, murdered Manoharan and threw the body into the river. Thanjavur police retrieved the body from GA canal on June 23 and registered a case.

TIRUCHY: A gang of 10, who were involved in the murder of a coolie in Thanjavur, have been detained under Goondas Act on Tuesday. According to police, S Manoharan (30), a coolie, residing at Keezha Vasal in Thanjavur against whom several cases, including murder, have been pending in various police stations was killed on June 21 by a gang10 persons from Sevappa Naikkan Vari area in Thanjavur. The group, in a drunken brawl, murdered Manoharan and threw the body into the river. Thanjavur police retrieved the body from GA canal on June 23 and registered a case. On June 24, K Manikandan (35), K Uma Maheswaran (24) and K Dinesh (24) surrendered before Papanasam court. Subsequently, based on the confession, the police arrested D Sakthi (20), R Karthik (20), A Ajith Kumar (24) all from Sevappa Naikkan Vari and A Anthony Pitchai (35). Meanwhile, D Vijay (30), G Arun Kumar (25) and S Natarajan (21) surrendered before the court and SP G Ravali Priya recommended to detain all the 10 under Goondas Act. Based on the recommendation, Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver ordered to detain them under the Goondas Act.
