Foundation laid for Rs 35 crore bridge across Ponnai river

VELLORE: The state highways department was presently in various stages of completing 115 km roads and constructing 12 bridges under the integrated highways infrastructure development programme for 2021-22 at an estimated Rs 160.30 crore, Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan said. He was participating in the Bhoomi Pooja for a Rs 35 crore bridge across the Ponnai River connecting Tiruttani and Chittoor at Ponnai on Wednesday.

Ongoing works by the highways department included converting the Tiruvalam - Katpadi – Venketagiri Kotta Road into a 4 lane highway for 8 km at a cost of Rs 47 crore, widening of the Chittoor – Tiruttani Road for a distance of 3 km at a cost of Rs 5.30 crore, widening the Ilayanallur cane road at an estimated Rs 3.70 crore and widening the Tiruvalam – Katpadi Road for 4 km at a cost of Rs 11 crore, he added.

Land acquisition was currently underway for the construction of a bridge connecting Sathuvachary and Kangeyanallur at an estimated Rs 22.53 crore, he added. Handlooms Minister R Gandhi, Arakkonam MP S Jagatrakshakan were present.
