COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Forest Department on Tuesday arrested two persons for poaching a wild boar by using an ‘avuttukai’ (country bomb). The accused K Kavin Kumar, 24 and S Chinnasamy, 35, both residents of Mettupalayam had poached the wild boar and were cooking its meat, when they were caught. One more accused, K Kittaan, 55, from the same neighbourhood had gone into hiding and a search is on to nab him. Acting on a tip that the trio was cooking wild boar meat, a team led by EN Manokaran, Karamadai Forest Range Officer, nabbed the duo red handed and they were booked under Section 9 and 51 (1) of Wildlife Protection Act 1972. An inquiry is underway to crack down on their network of ‘avuttukai’ suppliers to prevent poaching.
