For 2nd day, CB-CID inquires with Mahendran’s kin

For the second day in a row, the CB-CID team continued it probe into the alleged custodial death of 28-year-old Mahendran. The team inquired with his mother and other relatives on Thursday in Thoothukudi.

The CB-CID team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar held inquiries with S Vadivu, mother of the victim Mahendran at a house at KVK Nagar in Thoothukudi and also other relatives. The investigations went on for over two hours.

Moreover, adequate police force has also been deployed in front of the house at KVK Nagar, where the petitioner Vadivu is residing along with her daughter, to provide security as demanded by the petitioner.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the team inquired sister of the victim in the same house, sources said. The 65-year old aggrieved mother moved High Court Madurai seeking justice for the death of her son Mahendran, whom she claimed was beaten up by the Sathankulam police in the guise of inquiry. The mother, who sought legal action against the then Inspector S Srithar and Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh, said he became the victim of custodial torture and succumbed to injuries on June 13.

Based on her claims through a petition, the High Court ordered the CB-CID to probe into the custodial death.
