Fissures in Vaniyambadi DMK comes to fore at GH after indirect polls

One group owing allegiance to district secretary and Jolorpet MLA K Devaraji and another owing allegiance to town secretary Sarathy Kumar clashed outside the office after the polls.

VANIYAMBADI: Groupism in Vaniyambadi town DMK came to the fore following the indirect polls to the post of Vaniyambadi municipality vice chairman on Tuesday.

One group owing allegiance to district secretary and Jolorpet MLA K Devaraji and another owing allegiance to town secretary Sarathy Kumar clashed outside the office after the polls.When three supporters of Sarathy Kumar came to the government hospital for treatment, sources said the rival group men too came there.

Meanwhile, Devaraji’s son Senthil Kumar who is a doctor in the hospital came there in an inebriated condition and when the rivals saw this they demanded that he be checked which resulted in a free for all at the spot. Senthil Kumar parked his vehicle at the OP entrance and vanished.

Sarathy Kumar lodged a complaint with the town police that some of his supporters were cut with blades and that they seized a jeep of the rival group with deadly weapons. Police held talks with both groups to ensure peace.
