The eight-member Central team that has been visiting the Delta for the second consecutive day, interacted with the farmers who told them that they had lost the crops that were ready for harvest as there was strong wing coupled with heavy rain due to Cyclone Burevi. They said that they had at least spent Rs 40,000 per acre for cultivating paddy and many of them lost more than 80 per cent of their crops.

Subsequently, they appealed to the Central team to initiate steps for the fast disposal of the crop damage compensation so that they could commence their next cultivation with the financial support. Interestingly, a few farmers from Thanjavur interacted with the team in Hindi and the officials took note of rain fall, groundwater level and asked whether the groundwater was sufficient for them to undergo the cultivation in the coming season. The officials said that the reports would be submitted by this week.
