Expect heavy showers in Chennai, neighbouring districts today: RMC

RMC has issued a heavy rain alert for Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Puducherry districts.

CHENNAI: Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the south interior of Karnataka and the neighbourhoods above the mean sea level. Chennai and its neighbouring districts are expected to get heavy rain today. Minimum temperature will see a dip, likely to be below normal in TN and Puducherry areas.

RMC has issued a heavy rain alert for Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Puducherry districts.

Also thunderstorms and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry areas today.

The RMC weather bulletin said, “Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu (at a few places over coastal Tamil Nadu) and at isolated places over interior TN and Puducherry area, with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places.”

In Chennai, the maximum temperature will be around 28 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 22 degrees on Saturday. “On January 25, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over TN and Puducherry areas. On January 26, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over TN, at a few places over interior TN and at isolated places over coastal TN, Puducherry and Karaikal area,” added the bulletin.

From January 29-30, dry weather is likely to prevail over TN, Puducherry and Karaikal areas. On Friday, Tirupattur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 15.6 degrees in the plains of TN. Kodaikanal and Ooty recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees in the hill areas of TN.
